Project Overview

Designed for out-of-town clients seeking a sophisticated retreat in Houston, the Blue Haven Living Room captures the essence of calm, comfort, and understated luxury. The homeowners wanted their vacation property to feel like a true home away from home — a space for reconnecting with family, hosting gatherings, and unwinding in style.

Because the clients live out of state, the design had to be completely turnkey. Our team handled every detail — from concept and furniture selection to final styling — so that the clients could walk into a fully finished home ready to enjoy.

Design Vision

The goal for this space was to create a lounge that celebrates color, comfort, and connection. Designed as a lively retreat for both kids and adults, this room balances playful energy with elevated design.

We embraced a rich mix of tones and textures to bring personality and warmth to the space. Bold hues were layered with soft neutrals to create vibrancy without chaos, resulting in a look that feels spirited yet cohesive. Each color choice was intentional, adding depth, joy, and a sense of individuality.

Durable materials and comfortable furnishings ensure that the room can evolve with the family over time, maintaining both style and function. The final design feels fresh, dynamic, and full of life, a true reflection of how modern families live and play today.

The Layout

Comfort and flow were central to this design. The room features dual facing sofas, creating a natural symmetry that encourages conversation and togetherness. Two deep blue armchairs anchor the focal point, drawing the eye toward the fireplace wall and art arrangement. This setup allows for generous seating without sacrificing open space — ideal for entertaining extended family during holidays and special occasions.
The glass coffee tables add lightness and maintain visual openness, while layered area rugs soften the look and tie the seating zones together.

Fireplace Feature: Elevated on a Budget

A major design opportunity was the fireplace wall. The clients admired the elegance of marble but wanted to stay mindful of their investment priorities. Instead of using real stone, we specified a high-quality marble-texture wallpaper, carefully sourced for its depth, sheen, and realistic veining.
This creative decision saved thousands in material and installation costs, yet achieved the same luxurious effect. It became the visual centerpiece of the room — proving that great design isn’t always about spending more, but about spending smart.

Material & Color Story

Palette: Slate, navy, and soft sky blues balanced with ivory and beige tones.

Upholstery: Durable performance fabric sofas — kid- and guest-friendly without compromising elegance.

Accent Seating: Structured navy armchairs add visual weight and definition.

Textiles: A blend of solids, stripes, and botanical prints adds dimension and personality.

Lighting: Layered with sculptural sconces, a central ceiling fan, and ambient table lamps for warmth.

Drapery: Floor-to-ceiling linen panels elongate the walls and filter natural light beautifully.

The Client Experience

Because this was a vacation property, convenience and peace of mind were everything. We coordinated every detail remotely — from design approvals and vendor sourcing to deliveries and final installation. When the clients walked into their finished home, the transformation was complete: candles lit, pillows fluffed, and the scent of new beginnings in the air.
